R&D Food Scientist

Job Responsibilities and Duties
- Support the sales and marketing teams efforts with technical support and custom developed applications
- Utilize experience in formulations to develop product applications and technical data that demonstrate product benefits
- Develop comprehensive understanding of ingredient functionality in relevant applications
- Evaluate / characterize new raw materials and make recommendation as to their potential as new opportunities
- Travel with sales team to customers to give presentations and demonstrate product benefits
- Provide technical assistance to customers in area of expertise
- Develop or assist with the development of presentations, technical brochures, technical data sheets and other relevant communication documents
- Represent the company by participating in relevant trade organizations / tradeshow / conferences
- Provide assistance and training to Sales and Marketing departments
Minimum Job Requirements, Skills and Qualifications
- BS/MS/PhD degree in Food Science or a science related field
- Five years of technical experience in product development /formulation in food products. Technical knowledge of hydrocolloids (pectin, alginate, modified cellulose) and their use in food applications.
- In depth understanding of FDA, USDA, FSIS regulations, GMP’s, SOP’s, the product development process, functional ingredients and applicable processing equipment and procedures
- Proficient with MS Office, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Able to communicate (written and oral in person and on the telephone) technical information
- Good and effective organizational skills and able to keep accurate detailed records
- Able to work independently within area of responsibility
- Effective time management skills and able to prioritize multiple customer accounts

Interactions and Tools/Equipment Utilized in the Job
- Lab equipment (blenders, mixers, oven, scales, etc.), production processing equipment.
- Consult with sales, QA/QC, Purchasing, Production and Warehouse personnel.
- Utilize standard office equipment and computer work station.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift a maximum of 50lbs. (on occasion).
- This position could require sitting, typing and viewing computer screen for long periods of time; standing in lab.

- Onsite full time position M-F.
- 10% Travel
